#ThrowBackThursday #BlackMusicMonth Edition – Did you know that Seattle was home to a thriving funk and soul scene in the 1960s and 70s? On this week’s episode of Throwback Thursday, Stephanie Johnson-Toliver takes you on a journey through a time before iPods, Spotify and Siri.
She recalls bands like Cold, Bold & Together, Robbie Hill’s Family Affair, Cookin’ Bag, Black & White Affair, The Noblemen and more. These bands influenced numerous individuals in Seattle and created some of the most recognizable music from the era.
She also talks about the radio station KZAM, the first Black owned Seattle Soul station. Owned by Don Dudley, the station was the first exposure to many to what was hot on the charts.
