Time is moving like it’s nobody’s business, and if you are anything like me, you too have a list of things or “promises” to yourself that you hope to fulfill this year. As much as wellness remains at the top of my list, it often gets pushed to the wayside (I probably watch too many Pop the Balloon episodes).
Just in time for Women’s History Month, the Black, women-owned Platinum Wellness Spa got me back into good graces with myself and helped reset my mind and body.

This 7,000-square-foot luxury spa retreat opened its doors in 2022. It is tucked away just outside the city limits in Conyers, Georgia, still within the Atlanta metropolitan area. When I first walked into the spa, I was greeted by a friendly receptionist who didn’t waste time checking me in. I was escorted to a changing room with lockers and given a plush charcoal grey robe and slippers.

My first experience was the fire and ice massage, a 90-minute-deep massage incorporating hot and cold stones, which is considered contrast therapy. The shift from hot to cold and back to hot was well-paced. Thanks to my therapist, it was not a complete shocker to my body, and it relieved serious tension in my back.
From there, I was given time to take in all the amenities, including the Oxygen Bar, which was a different and very appreciated experience. You rest for 30-45 minutes at a scent station of your choice (orange, lavender, peppermint and many more) in a large, cozy seat with a super-soft blanket. You are then given a nasal cannula that emits the oxygen-infused aromatherapy. The effects were invigorating; with each inhale, there was a burst of clarity and energy. It was so worth it.
The fire cupping technique was my next feel-good move. Cupping is an ancient technique that creates suction by placing cups on various body areas. The process is believed to improve blood flow, reduce inflammation, relieve muscle tension and promote relaxation. I was ecstatic to put it to the test.

My therapist rubbed my back with a lovely oil and asked questions about any back pain or symptoms I may have been experiencing. That helped her determine the areas where the cups should be placed. The entire process took about 30 minutes. Honestly, while the experience felt strange (and tickled a little bit), I did feel like my back loosened up when I sat up.

Finally, my Vichy shower was something I had no idea I needed. Someone scrubbed my entire body, y’all. A mix of hydrotherapy paired with a massage—it was divine! I lay face down on the table in water that was the perfect temperature and was truly pampered. Every inch of my body was rubbed down after being cleaned and rinsed, and I walked out of that room literally glowing.
The game changer in this equation is the shower system with multiple showerheads. It is said to improve blood circulation and the appearance of radiant skin. My masseuse—or I should say, therapist—took it to the next level and provided clarity as well as encouraged me to pamper myself as often as possible. Yes ma’am!

The spacious steam room was filled with full-on volcano levels of steam. It was so relaxing, and I felt detoxified afterward. An escape is designed to be exactly what you need it to be, and that looks different for each person. For me, at least in this current stage of life, most of my getaways are curated to experience self-care. The Platinum Wellness Spa was just what I needed to recharge and refocus, and I left feeling renewed and ready to tackle my list of promises to myself.
