Sonic The Hedgehog 3‘s star, Tika Sumpter’s 8-year-old daughter, Ella-Loren, is an expert on all things happening in the Sonic world. “Sonic is her favorite character, but she’s always like, ‘Mom, I need to educate you on all the characters,’” she told EBONY. “She loves playing video games and Sonic games. I’m learning from her because I don’t understand the controllers now.” The actress attended a special screening at Regal Atlantic Station in Atlanta. “It’s just a lot of fun, a lot of heart and a lot of love. I think, 8-years-old or 80-years-old, this film is so intergenerational,” she declared. “I think everybody’s gonna love the action…There’s something for everybody. It is a family film, but even if you don’t have a family, you and your friends are gonna have fun watching this.” Sonic the Hedgehog 3 opens in theaters on December 20.

Mentors and mentees were also recognized during the exclusive fete, at EBONY Power 100 awardee Kwame Onuwachi’s Tatiana restaurant in Lincoln Center, New York City. Joey Bada$$ also revealed he’ll serve as the first Artist Scholar in Residence at Columbia University’s Edmund W. Gordon Institute starting next semester.
