Sexyy Red, Ty Dolla $ign and Ski Mask the Slump God have joined the cast of Rolling Loud, an R-rated hip-hop comedy inspired by real events at the world-renowned festival.
Initially reported by Variety, the film follows an overprotective father (Owen Wilson) who attempts to bond with his 13-year-old son by sneaking him into a major music festival. What begins as an ill-advised parenting move quickly unravels into a chaotic adventure, with his reckless co-worker (Matt Rife) and an eccentric festival volunteer (Christine Ko) adding to the mayhem.
Bringing an authentic hip-hop presence to the film, Sexyy Red continues her breakout run with her feature film debut. The St. Louis rapper, who emerged as one of the most talked-about artists of 2023, adds another dimension to her growing career, which includes viral hits, high-profile collaborations and a co-sign from industry heavyweights like Drake and Lil Durk. Ty Dolla $ign, known for his genre-spanning collaborations and signature vocal style, has long established himself as one of hip-hop’s most in-demand artists. Meanwhile, Ski Mask the Slump God, a leading voice from the SoundCloud rap movement, brings his signature high-energy presence to the project.
Production is underway in Atlanta, a hub for hip-hop and film, with Rolling Loud written, directed, and produced by Jeremy Garelick (Murder Mystery 2). Rolling Loud follows a lineage of films that merge festival culture with scripted storytelling. From Dave Chappelle’s Block Party, which captured a legendary moment in live hip-hop, to Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened, a documentary chronicling the disastrous luxury festival, music-driven films have long capitalized on the energy and unpredictability of live events. Even House Party, both in its 1990 original and its 2023 reboot, played off hip-hop’s influence in youth-driven, high-energy narratives.
Beyond their roles in the film, Sexyy Red and Ski Mask the Slump God are set to perform at Rolling Loud California on March 15-16, where A$AP Rocky, Playboi Carti and Peso Pluma will headline. As the festival continues to be a launchpad for rap’s biggest stars, its big-screen adaptation aims to tap into that same cultural impact.
