The Woman in the Yard has people talking. It centers around Ramona, played by Danielle Deadwyler, a recently widowed mother, and her children, who are terrorized by a woman shrouded in black who appears in their yard. While this is a horror thriller, it dives deeper, questioning a parent’s mental wellness and how that affects our children.
Peyton Jackson, who plays Ramona’s son Taylor, is caught in that fallout. “He is a 14-year-old boy who just lost a close person in his life, his dad,” he shared. So, he does what any teen boy would do.
“He tries to step in to be the man of his house while simultaneously dealing with this creepy woman who appears in his yard,” Jackson stated. “He really wants to take care of everyone because his mom, unfortunately, is not able to do so in her state of mind. So, he’s kind of taking over as the protector of the house — trying to, at least.”
But it’s because of this very mental state the family is in the predicament that they’re in. “The family navigates, not only through this intense trauma being inflicted upon them by this terrifying woman but the trials within the household as well,” he declared.
That underlying theme elevates this production beyond being just a horror film. “It’s really about Ramona’s strength. And the best part is watching how it all unfolds,” Jackson explained.
But there are still some major scares, according to Jackson.
“The Woman In The Yard is a visually striking film that is very scary,” he said.
And that’s the main reason we, as viewers, show up. “Scary movies are one of the best genres to make its audience feel something they weren’t initially feeling. It makes the audience feel like they are in a serious situation with the characters on the screen and gives them as much anticipation and anxiety as the characters are,” Jackson concluded. “I think it’s a wonderful experience.”
The Woman in the Yard is now playing in theaters.
