Mike Epps Says ‘Last Friday’ Going Into Production After 23-Year Wait

It’s been 23 years since we’ve been blessed with a Friday movie, which is way too long overdue in our minds. But it looks like the tides are changing.

On The Breakfast Club, guest Mike Epps confirmed that Last Friday, the fourth, and rumored final installment in the series, is ready to go into production, per a conversation with Friday creator and producer Ice Cube.”He said we just finished the deal,” Epps shared. While he hasn’t seen a script, “I’m pretty sure it’s good. And we’re going to bring in the new comics.”

Epps also gave flowers to Ice Cube for putting so many Black actors and comedians in front of the camera. “He’s put so many brothers on…and don’t really get the props for it.” Epps has been following in Ice Cube’s footsteps by bringing more Black men to the screen on his Netflix series The Upshaws.

“I had Scarface on the show acting, Petey Pablo and so many comics on the show…That’s what we do. We’re turning on Black men, putting Black men in a position where they can feed their family and build legacies.

The Upshaws is in its fifth and final season, but Epps’s schedule is booked and busy. He revealed that he’s working with Tiffany Haddish on a new series that’s a “Black Cheers.”

Epps is also the man behind Good American Family, coming to Hulu March 19. He’s one of the executive producers on the limited series, which was inspired by the disturbing stories surrounding a Midwestern couple who adopt a girl with a rare form of dwarfism. “It’s an all-white cast,” he said of the project, which he did through his Naptown production company.

Last Friday, expected to hit screens in 2026, will join its predecessors Friday (1995), Next Friday (2000) and Friday After Next (2002).
