Meot | Aug 28 2024 – Mar 2 2025 | Seattle Asian Art Museum

Contemplate the exquisite beauty of Korean art from across time. “Meot” celebrates the expansive Korean art collection of generous art patron Frank Bayley (1939–2022) and the friendships he shared with internationally renowned contemporary artists KIM Yik-yung (b. 1935), YOON Kwang-cho (b. 1946), MIN Young-Ki (b. 1946), Youngsook PARK (b. 1947), Bohnchang KOO (b. 1953), Inchin LEE (b. 1957), and SON Manjin (b. 1964). Artworks by each of these artists are set in dialogue with historical works of similar mediums and techniques, revealing how traditional forms have evolved and transformed across centuries. Featuring over 60 artworks, including an array of ceramics—Buncheong ware, whiteware, and blue-and-white—alongside paintings, photography, calligraphy, and wooden works, the exhibition reveals Bayley’s unique collecting vision, as he admired both the continuity and innovation within traditional artworks as well as contemporary artistic expressions of Korean art.

“Meot” is guest curated by Hyonjeong “HJ” Kim Han, Joseph de Heer Curator of Arts of Asia at the Denver Art Museum.
