After being drafted into the NBA alongside his pop LeBron James, Bronny is giving a detailed look at his post-cardiac arrest journey.
After LeBron and Bronny James made history by becoming the NBA’s first father-son duo to hit the court together and with Bronny suffering a cardiac arrest last year, it’s a miracle to see his progress.
On Tuesday, Bronny covered the latest issue of Men’s Health and told his story in his own words.
According to Men’s Health, after his health scare, Bronny reset his routine and went back to square one. The magazine also pointed out that when discussing his cardiac arrest Bronny tensed up, and dropped eye contact.
“I got real on top of my routines to get back to where I was. I had to do breathing exercises and stuff.”Bronny revealed. “It was a total reset. I have to stay on top of my heart medications, and…I got my heart pillow,” he told Men’s Health. “When I coughed, it used to hurt a little bit, but you get this pillow, and when you cough you just hold it so it doesn’t hurt.”
You’ve heard a lot ABOUT Bronny in the runup to his rookie season with the Lakers. Now you hear FROM Bronny on the blessing and burden of sharing the court with you-know-who.

In a rare moment of vulnerability, Bronny admitted that he is still recovering and isn’t back to 100%.
“My days aren’t normal anymore,” he said. “I still feel like I’m getting back, I’m getting back to where I was.” -said Bronny.
Getting back on the court so soon after cardiac arrest and heart surgery could be a bit much, but Bronny told Men’s Health that his father taught him to block out the outside noise.
“Everything I’ve been through over the years has prepared me for this,” Bronny confessed. “I really think it just ties back to me experiencing so much negativity and pushing through all of that. I feel like it built me to where any situation that is trying to hold me back or I’m not fighting through at the time, I can sustain my comfortability and belief in myself to keep going. I mean, there might be a couple times that I look at something and it makes me mad, and I go out and play better, but most of the time, it’s in through one, out the other.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Bronny said he grew up upbringing as the eldest James child, and said he never expected that scrutiny and notoriety would be part of his life.
“Growing up, I didn’t really understand why everything was going on. I wasn’t really paying attention to everything, so it was a surprise to me, but not really, because I knew it was happening, but I didn’t know it was going to flood over me like that.” -Bronny reflected.
It’s refreshing to see Bronny tell his story in his own words and it seems like he’s set on keeping it as real as possible.
