The 2025 Golden Globes includes an impressive list of Black, Afro-Latino and Afro-Indigenous actor nominations. Presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press, the Globes recognizes achievements across film and television. Here are all the performers nominated and the roles they play or starred in to earn a nod.
Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy
Cynthia Erivo (Wicked): In the movie version of the Broadway musical, she plays Elphaba, the misunderstood and misaligned green woman who is falsely accused of being evil.
Zendaya (Challengers): The Europhia alum is Tashi Donaldson, a tennis great-turned-coach who lobbies the affections of two men who are best friends-turned-tennis rivals.
Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama
Colman Domingo (Sing Sing): Domingo stars as John “Divine G” Whitfield, a man wrongfully imprisoned at Sing Sing who finds purpose and healing through participating in the facility’s real-life theater group.
Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture
Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez): Saldaña stars as Rita, a lawyer who aids a drug cartel boss in faking their death and having life-changing surgery.
Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture
Denzel Washington (Gladiator II): Washington is an ancient Rome gladiator wrangler named Macrinus who will stop at nothing to seize power.
Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television
Jamie Foxx (Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was): The comedic actor returns to the stage to discuss the mysterious illness that almost claimed his life.
Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Drama
Donald Glover (Mr. & Mrs. Smith): In this role, Glover plays an assassin who falls in love with his assigned wife, putting their lives in peril.
Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy
Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary): As loveable Janine Teagues, a second-grade teacher at Willard R. Abbott Elementary School, Brunson also created the comedy series.
Ayo Edebiri (The Bear): Edebiri plays Sydney Adamu, an ambitious sous chef at The Original Beef of Chicagoland with a strong work ethic.
Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role on Television
Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear): She plays Tina Marrero, a seasoned chef fiercely dedicated to her family’s sandwich shop.
Kali Reis (True Detective: Night Country): The Afro-Indigenous actress stars as Evangeline Navarro, a skilled detective investigating a series of mysterious disappearances in Tsalal, a remote town in Alaska.
In addition, Viola Davis will be honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2025 awards ceremony. In 2017, she earned the Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture award for her work in Fences.
The 2025 Golden Globes will air on January 7, 2025, on CBS.
