It’s time to lock up your smartphone once again. Comedic powerhouse Dave Chappelle is set to co-headline a 2024 tour with rap legend Killer Mike & The Mighty Midnight Revival. The seven-city event, produced by Live Nation, will present a fusion of music and comedy on stage.
The action begins on November 15 at the Fox Theatre in Detroit and will visit Atlanta, Boston, New York City, Long Beach, California and more. And, yes, like past Chapelle shows, this will be a phone-free experience.
The comedian, whose past performances have landed him in the top ten highest-grossing comedy tours, explained his technology-forbidden policy on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. “When I walked on stage, I would see a sea of cell phones, so I knew that anything I said in the room I was saying to everybody, whether they were in the room or not, which is not an empowering feeling to a comedian,” he shared on the broadcast.
Attending the show doesn’t mean you must part with your device physically. Upon arrival at the venue, all phones, smartwatches and accessories will be secured in individual Yondr pouches that will be opened at the end of the event. Guests always maintain possession of their devices and can access them throughout the event only in designated “Phone Use Areas” within the venue. Anyone seen using a device (phone, smartwatch or accessories) during the performance will be escorted out of the venue by security. All material presented is owned by Pilot Boy Productions, Inc. and Dave Chappelle.
Recognized as one of the greatest comedians of all time, Chapelle is the 2019 recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. He won the Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album three years in a row, from 2018 through 2020, and most recently in 2023 with “What’s in a Name.” Earlier this month, he inducted A Tribe Called Quest into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Rapper, entrepreneur and activist Killer Mike received Billboard’s inaugural 2020 Change Maker Award. His critically lauded 2023 album MICHAEL earned him three Grammy Awards and BET’s Album of the Year award.
