Big Brothers Big Sisters of America Announces EBONY CEO Eden Bridgeman in New Cohort for Its Game Changers Initiative

In commemoration of International Day of the Girl Child today, October 11, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBS) has announced a new cohort of Game Changers, focusing on empowering girls through mentorship and providing access to opportunities.

This group of women, who are trailblazers and culture shifters in their respective fields, embodies BBBS’s vision of mentorship and inspires the next generation by living out the Game Changers maxim, “If you can see it, you can be it.”

Game Changers will share their stories of mentorship, build authentic connections and cultivate mentorship experiences such as “Big for a Day” opportunities that will impact young girls.

The next cohort includes Eden Bridgeman, La La Anthony, Gayle King, Lexi Underwood, Gabrielle Union, Jeannie Mai and Sybil Wilkes, who have all signed on to be a part of the Game Changers initiative.

In an official statement, Bridgeman, owner and CEO of EBONY & JET, expressed her excitement about the initiative and the importance of mentoring the next generation.

“Mentorship is the bridge that connects experience to potential, offering both guidance and belief in someone’s ability to achieve greatness. For me, it’s about more than just sharing knowledge or direction—it’s about empowering others to see their own strengths, steer challenges with confidence and unlock their fullest potential,” Bridgeman said. “It’s a mutual journey of growth, built on trust, learning and the shared goal of continuous improvement, where both mentor and mentee inspire and uplift one another.”

“Mentorship can happen anywhere, anytime,” Wilkes, co-host of the Tom Joyner Morning Show, added. “It can exist without a mentor knowing about it.”

Actress and singer Underwood shared how mentoring impacted her life and how she wants to pay it forward as a Game Changer.

“We’ve heard the quote, ‘If you see it, you can be it.’ I would offer to take that a step further: if you consistently teach, guide, model, support and advise, with accountability, on how to be it, there is greater potential to evolve into an enlightened, resilient, confident, balanced, competent, emotionally mature version of the it that one is striving to become,” she said.

“The balance of hard work, family support, and incredibly impactful mentoring relationships have helped me achieve the measure of success I’ve realized at this point in my life. I am eternally grateful to be in the orbit of amazingly fierce women who constantly lead with a balance of kindness and tenacity.”
