In 2016, Washington launched Simpson Street, a production company named after the Bronx street where she grew up. The company has produced critically acclaimed projects like Confirmation, Little Fires Everywhere and Unprisoned, focusing on complex narratives that center on Black women’s experiences.  

Social Impact Through Philanthropy 

A longtime advocate for education and civil rights, Washington has worked with organizations like the All Vote No Play Initiative and V-Day, pushing for voter engagement and gender justice. She’s also a board member of the Performing Arts Center at the World Trade Center, ensuring arts remain a vital force in social change. 

Empowering Ethical Fashion through Aurate Partnership

Washington partnered with Aurate, a fine jewelry brand committed to sustainable sourcing and affordability. As a co-designer and investor, she introduced the Lioness Collection, symbolizing female strength and resilience, with portions of proceeds supporting women’s activist organizations.

Washington has strategically invested in companies like The Honey Pot Co., a Black woman-owned wellness brand, and Thirteen Lune, an inclusive beauty retailer. Her portfolio reflects a commitment to amplifying Black entrepreneurship and reshaping industries from within.

Washington invested in Spill, a Black-owned social media platform founded by former Twitter employees. Her support underscores her dedication to fostering inclusive digital communities and amplifying marginalized voices in the tech industry. 

Facilitating Seamless Celebrations with Cheersy 

Leading the pre-seed funding round, Washington backed Cheersy, a marketplace connecting couples with day-of wedding coordinators. This venture reflects her interest in supporting innovative solutions that enhance personal milestones and streamline event planning. 

Collaborating with Tyler Perry on The Six Triple Eight

Washington stars in and produced The Six Triple Eight, a Netflix film directed by Tyler Perry. The movie tells the story of the only all-Black, all-female battalion in World War II, highlighting Washington’s commitment to bringing untold historical narratives to the forefront.
