Marvel Studios has announced the upcoming cast of Avengers: Doomsday, and two familiar faces are in the lineup: Black Panther stars Letita Wright and Winston Duke.
The actors who originated the roles of Shuri and M’Baku in Ryan Coogler’s uber-successful 2018 film will reprise their characters, with Wright appearing as Black Panther.
For MCU fans, the announcement confirms Wakanda’s vital role in what is expected to be the MCU’s most intense chapter yet. According to reports, characters across the multiverse will team up against a force that threatens their entire existence, and for those who love a deep dive, it will be a fight against Robert Downey Jr., who is returning to the MCU as Dr. Doom.
Wright’s return as Black Panther carries profound significance. After the heart-wrenching death of King T’Challa and the real-life passing of Chadwick Boseman, Shuri assumed the role of the warrior-fighter in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022). It’s a testament to resilience and the enduring spirit of Wakanda. Now, Black Panther must lead her people (and potentially the entire Earth) through a crisis that will test the limits of her technological genius and warrior spirit.
Duke’s M’Baku, the once-rival turned staunch ally in Wakanda, brings fierce loyalty and unparalleled combat skills, which may be crucial in the face of overwhelming odds. Will his Jabari tribe and the Dora Milaje bring their unique fighting skills to this spectacle? Time will tell.
Avengers: Doomsday is slated to arrive in theaters on May 1, 2026.
