Anthony Anderson Fights for Family in ‘G20’

The devotion to family in the hands of a Black man is like no other. Our men step up for us and stop at nothing in their dedication and commitment to keeping us safe.

That was easy enough for Anthony Anderson to portray in his new film, G20. He stars as Derek Sutton, the devoted husband of United States President Danielle Sutton.

Being a ride-or-die for the president perfectly suited Anderson, who’s starring opposite Viola Davis in the action thriller.

“As President of the United States, my wife is one of the most powerful persons in the world, and I am the homemaker,” Anderson said of his onscreen ego. “Very seldom do you see the husband be the nurturer, but I am in this relationship.”

We may have not seen Anderson in a role like this before, but he happily stepped forward to show that Black men do have a softer side.

“That was something that I was looking forward to portraying on screen. People can see me and this character in a different light.”

When the international G20 summit that Danielle, Derek and their children are attending in South Africa is hijacked and held hostage by terrorists, Anderson’s nurturer becomes protector, and this First Gentleman springs into action to protect what’s theirs.

“My favorite scene—which got an applause in the theater—is when I come into my children’s room to save their lives and they’re under attack,” he exclaimed.

“I get to show them how much they mean to me by whipping somebody’s butt.”

G20 premieres on April 10 on Prime Video.
