Jade Thirlwall is making many statements with her brand. The loudest message that stood out to me, is what she considers her race. I believe race is deeply rooted in personal experience, your upbringing, family background, along with how the world views/treats you. Jade on the other hand might think a little different. Growing up in a mixed-race household, she was exposed to different cultures and traditions from a young age. Constantly describing herself as mixed race, English Arab. Her grandfather especially instilled in her a strong sense of self-worth in her Arab identity. And as time went on, she discovered a new identity when she moved to London. Her black side, something she wasn’t aware of until her adulthood. Or could it be, Jade was racialized, being labeled something she wasn’t?
