Showcase Series: Black History Month | Baraka: Dancing through the African Diaspora

Enjoy this clip from one of last month’s Showcase Series events, celebrating Black History Month.

Baraka is a cultural homage to the African aesthetics in dances of the Western Hemisphere. From African modern to ballet, African descendants have contributed to the global influence of dance.

This clip features KasheDance (led by Kevin Ormsby and featuring Benjamin Russell, Cheryl Chan, Jillia Cato, and Emilie “Zila” Jabouin) performing to “Sweet in the morning” by Bobby McFerrin. KasheDance were also joined by National Ballet of Canada Apprentice dancer, Taïs Vinolo, and the Coco Collective (featuring Collette Murray, Sherwin Charles, Whitney Charles, and Kimberely Charles).
