Lil Wayne’s Lil WeezyAna Fest included big moments like a Hot Boys reunion, the rapper receiving the key to the city, and a quick comment about the Super Bowl halftime show being “ripped away” from him.
“I worked my a** off,” Tunechi told the crowd.
Lil Wayne Received The Key To The City At Lil Weezyana Fest
On Saturday, the rapper reunited with his group, Hot Boys, just before being honored with the key to the city of New Orleans.
According to nola.com, Lil WeezyAna Fest was launched in 2015 to honor the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Though some of the past productions of the fest were unsuccessful, this year’s was promising and streamed on Prime Video and Amazon Music.
For the most exciting part of the night, Wayne rejoined the stage to perform with Turk, Juvenile, and B.G. of his historic rap group, The Hot Boys. This marked the first time the group was fully reunited in 15 years.
The Big Tymers comprised of Cash Money Records co-founder Bryan “Birdman” Williams and the label’s longtime producer, Mannie Fresh, also hit the stage.
The Hot Boys performed hits like “Neighborhood Superstar,” “I Need A Hot Girl,” and “Bling Bling.”
During arguably the most impactful part of Lil WeezyAna Fest, the rapper received the key to New Orleans. The city’s Mayor, LaToya Cantrell, presented the key along with No Limit Records founder Master P.
“This is your city and you matter for generations for what you’ve done, what you’re doing, and what you will do,” said Mayor Cantrell.
Though he spent many years as a rival to Cash Money Records, Master P dubbed Wayne “the greatest rapper alive” and also stated that the “Lollipop” rapper would be one of the first honorees for the city’s Walk of Fame.
Lil Wayne Addressed Alleged Superbowl Snub At Lil WeezyAna Fest
A visibly emotional, Lil Wayne accepted the honor and in his speech, he again mentioned that he’d hope to perform for Superbowl LIX’s halftime show after previously watching the Saints play in the big game from a private suite.
“That moment I said to myself I want to be onstage for the Super Bowl for my mom,” he shared.
As previously reported, Kendrick Lamar was chosen to headline the halftime show, leaving Wayne and his supporters disappointed. Wayne has been vocal about how much the “snub” impacted him, and on Saturday, he said he felt the opportunity was ripped from him.
“And I worked my a** off to get that f****g position and it was ripped away from me, but this motherf***g moment right here, they can’t take that!” he proclaimed.

Super Bowl “snub” or not, Wayne will be further honored as February 6 and 7 are now considered “Lil Wayne Day” in New Orleans.
