The Jackson Street Music Program Institute’s objective is to not only provide artistic and entertaining content; it also seeks to inspire educational dialog and inquiry of Jazz as part of the African American Cultural diaspora.

Friday, February 12, 2021 – Jazz always embraced technology; radio helped Jazz become a global phenomenon. Jazz radio helped to tell Jazz’s “Story” from the Artist’s perspective via music and dialog. Interviews with Grammy nominated saxophonist Tia Fuller and two-time Grammy nominated Dan Kuramoto of the Jazz fusion band Hiroshima illustrates why Jazz As Culture provides the “Musical Test” to the missing Stories in America literature and media: www.jazzinthecity.com.

The host for the evening is vocalist, Darelle Holden, the granddaughter of Seattle pioneer Oscar Holden.
Photography has helped to capture Jazz in Seattle and tell the Story of artists on stage, as well as the experience of the audience. The photography of the Jazz In The City Concert Series by photographer Anthony W. Hopkins will be featured.
Concerts:
Piece Of A Dream at Benaroya Hall, the jazz band from Philadelphia started their careers touring with the great Grover Washington, Jr. Their energetic performance has made them a global favorite for over 30 years as they continue to record and tour.
Folks Project at the Triple Door, the Seattle trio of pianist Darrius Willrich, bassist Evan Flory-Barnes and drummer, D’Vonne Lewis are a product of the great music tradition of Seattle’s Central District.
Sunday, February 14, 2021 – Jazz has provided the “Musical Text” of the African American Story in America, as well as constantly evolving and influencing artists around the world.
