This #Shorts video remembers Leslie Garland Bolling (1898-1955), the African American Sculptor who trained at Hampton University. He created at least 80 wooden basswood carving of his family and his friends in Richmond Virginia. His work was recognized by the Harmon Foundation in Harlem and exhibited across the United States,
The video features the following carvings as they appear: Saver of Soles (1941), Sister Tuesday (1934), Beautiful Woman (1931), Cousin-on-Friday (1935), At Work (1937), Sewing Seeds (1941), and the Boxer (1933).
